So after a four month long wait for the DVD to be released and then another three days for it to be delivered, I finally got the opportunity to watch The Businessman! Words cannot accurately describe how well Mahesh played his role. His acting and dialogue delivery along with Puri's superb direction and dialogues made it the blockbuster that it turned out to be. No one else can play this role and make it a success because this role was meant only for Superstar Mahesh.
Absolutely loved how the beginning of the movie highlighted both the good and bad sides of Mumbai. Mahesh's entrance was not as extravagant as some of his others but it was perfect for The Businessman. My first thought of him as he made his entrance into the movie was: This is a man on a mission!
The Introduction song was short and sweet! It was so energetic and Prince dance moves were equally energetic! Just watch the video and you can see the determination and dedication that he has towards acting, hence he is The Superstar!
We have seen our Prince play negative roles before but none can compare to Surya Bhai. He definitely went the extra mile for this movie and it has paid off very well for him. It was exciting to see him play such a dark role. He was absolutely fantastic, he makes a very convincing Bhai! Surya is a calm but very calculative and manipulative person, one of the reasons he made an awesome Bhai. He gets the job done with just a "snap of his finger", an aspect in the movie that I loved! Surya is a leader, he doesn't ask for respect, he takes it then proves to you that he deserves it! He maintains control of his gang and doesn't break his promises to the people around him that he doesn't want to see suffer at the hands of the rich. Living up to his bad boy role, Surya mixed business with pleasure: yes I am talking about the unbelievable chemistry that he shared with Chitra(Kajal Agarwal). As an actor Mahesh really has opened up over the years and this is evident in his movies, especially the Chandamama song in Businessman.
He carried this movie until the very end. It's quite safe to say that Mahesh completely embraced his Surya Bhai character.
The songs were all amazing, I was listening to them even before I knew what they meant! They are so very catchy. It's very difficult to pick a favorite one but "Sir Osthara" definitely tops the list. It really irritated me when I heard all these anti-Mahesh fans talking about "Pilla Chao" being copied. I'm pretty sure no one knew about the Italian version until some hater went to extensive lengths to try and ruin Mahesh's and the Businessman's image. But nevertheless, Pilla Chao is absolutely fantastic, listen to it once and you'll never stop! I love how Mahesh taunted Kajal in the song, it's a very nice side of Prince that Puri decided to explore in the filming of this song.
Sir Ostahra was quite the treat and Prince did show off some dance moves. He was dressed quite dashing in this song but then again he's always a dashing man! I felt it was a bit awkward that some parts were censored when others weren't. The movie was a clean movie, I have seen movies with worse language than Businessman and they weren't censored. But nevertheless, the song and the entire movie turned out to be a blockbuster!
"We love Bad Boys" is a favorite song, mainly because of Prince Mahesh's dance! I think it was very creative of the choreographer to take his clothes and some simple dance moves to create an absolutely fantastic dance. I must confess, whenever I watch the video for this song, I always go back to the part where Prince is dancing, because he was pretty good at it!
I cannot find words to describe how I felt when I saw the intermission for this movie. I honestly cried, but not because of what Mahesh said but because of his expression. Mahesh is a very expressive actor and that trait played to his advantage throughout this entire movie. His expression speaks volumes, all the emotions that could not be said in words were felt just by looking at Mahesh.
Chandamama is such a seductive song! Never knew Mahesh can be such a romantic!
Although Prakash Raj's role was somewhat muted in the movie, he was an important character. The ending of Businessman was epic! I loved when Surya was asked why did you come to a fight without any weapons?, his response was similar to one of those punch replies that Mahesh is so famous for; he simply said "I'll use the ones you brought".
To sum it all up Mahesh Babu or rather Surya Bhai is a modern day Robin Hood with a mission. A Robin Hood who is tired with the way society lives, especially the rich and Surya decides he's going to be the one to change the ways of our twisted society! If only a Surya Bhai really existed, this world will really be different. But Mahesh's character taught me to never judge a book by a cover, Surya Bhai is not the man we think he is, there's a reason for everything he does. Thank you Puri Sir for an amazing movie, with a beautiful plot, Thank you Thaman Sir for some of the most amazing Telugu songs that I have ever heard (especially Sir Osthara)and of course Thank you Superstar Mahesh for accepting this role and bringing Surya Bhai alive!
Yes I know I gushed about Mahesh throughout this entire post but words cannot describe how much I love him as Surya Bhai, the wait for this DVD was definitely worth it!!
Sir Osthara
We Love, love Bad Boys ;)
